Administrative Manager

Job Description: 

  • Maintain daily communication via email correspondence, phone messaging, and mail processing
  • Manage financial duties, including weekly deposits, income and expense tracking, event ticket and program purchases, billpay, and Quickbooks reconciliation and reporting
  • Ensure all forms associated with payroll, insurance, and unemployment are complete and updated
  • Submit by-weekly payroll
  • Manage and organize physical and hard drive files
  • Create and maintain lists for email subscription and donor base 
  • Coordinate and send weekly email newsletter
  • Update website
  • Assist executive staff in development work: donor communication and database maintenance, grant development, and events planning

Job Requirements: 

  • Must be highly organized, with excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Proficient in Quickbooks and Google Sheets
  • Able to work independently, with weekly check-ins and regular communication with staff/board 
  • Excellent at prioritizing among tasks and managing a variety of responsibilities
  • Interest in community food systems and food-based education a plus!

Hours/Schedule:

This position is budgeted as a 20 hour per week year round position,beginning in January 2018, with potential to increase hours with increased responsibility.

Daily Monday through Friday email correspondence and regular weekly hours required.

This position works out of the CGF office, currently located at 333 Fishkill Ave. 

 

Crew Manager

Job Description:

This is a new position working with the Farm Director to manage all aspects of our mixed vegetable production, distribution and food justice partnerships. Applicants should have at least 2-3 years of vegetable production experience on at least 3 acres. 

Field tasks are mostly done by hand and will include greenhouse propagation, transplanting, seeding, weeding, irrigating, cultivating, harvesting, packing, and general field maintenance. Tractor experience will be beneficial as we use tractors for soil preparation and some cultivation. The crew manager will be primarily on-site managing the field production and farm crew, and will be expected to take responsibility for some farm enterprises, such as managing our stand at various farmers’ markets or coordinating food pantry harvests and deliveries etc. 

As a farm rooted in food justice and education, we seek applicants who are serious about a career in agriculture and have a deep interest in community food security. Applicants should be aware that this role is primarily assisting with management of a production vegetable operation, however we welcome entrepreneurial attitudes and creative thinking.

Job Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of vegetable production experience on at least 3 acres
  • Driver’s license
  • Strong passion for production farming and desire to share and develop knowledge and skills
  • Excellent work ethic and physical endurance in all weather conditions
  • Positive attitude & flexible thinking
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, set priorities and see projects through to completion
  • Outstanding communication skills; able to share and accept feedback in a team environment
  • Excellent ability and desire to manage teams to cultivate both peak efficiency and personal growth
  • Tractor skills and farmers’ market experience desired

Hours: 40 hrs/week (full-time) Monday-Friday; Sundays when staffing farmers’ market

Dates: March-November

Compensation: $13-14/hr depending on experience, produce from the farm, workers’ comp insurance, paid vacation & sick time

 

Farm Crew

Job Description:

Crew members will participate in most areas of farm production and will be encouraged to take on leadership roles in areas that they want to develop, (i.e. crop management, program development, restaurant sales, record keeping, farmers’ market.) Field tasks are mostly done by hand and will include greenhouse propagation, transplanting, seeding, weeding, irrigating, cultivating, harvesting, packing, and general field maintenance. We use tractors for soil preparation and some cultivation, with training from the Farm Director possible. An important and unique aspect of our farm is our relationship with the community. Crew members will meet and interact with our food pantry partners & clients, as well as have opportunities to engage with or teach youth in our educational programs and summer camp. Crew Members will also develop experience with marketing and sales via staffing our stand at the Beacon Farmers Market and working with local chefs & restaurants. Weekend and morning availability is important; part-time work is possible.

 Job Requirements:

Some farm experience would be beneficial, however applicants who are new to farming are welcome to apply as long as they have experience with physical labor and working outdoors.

Dates: Start date in early April through the end of October

Compensation: $11-12/hr depending on experience, produce from the farm, workers’ comp insurance, paid vacation & sick time.
