Downing Park Farmers’ Market Manager

CGF is seeking a part-time, seasonal market manager for on-site and day-of management of the new Saturday Downing Park Farmers’ Market. The mission of the Downing Park Farmers’ Market is to support the residents and City of Newburgh by providing a high-quality market and programming accessible to everyone, regardless of age, race, or income. The project will be undertaken as a program of Common Ground Farm, and with the help and cooperation of the Newburgh Community Land Bank, the City of Newburgh, and the Downing Park Urban Farm.

 

From July to October, the market is outdoors at Downing Park with an estimated 8-10 vendors per week from 10am-3pm. Working alongside the Senior Market Manager, the market manager is responsible for set-up, break-down, SNAP / EBT processing, collecting market rent from vendors, and general day-of on-site management and market support.

Responsibilities:

 

On-Site (on market days)

 

  • setting up and breaking down market manager tent and table, market day-of signage and music tent (with musician assistance)

  • ensuring compliance with State and City regulations

  • serving as vendor liaison and resource as needed

  • staffing the market table to answer customer questions and distribute SNAP/EBT tokens

  • redeeming SNAP/EBT tokens and any additional nutrition incentive checks from vendors

  • collecting vendor rent and submitting market income to the CGF admin manager

  • troubleshooting on-site

  • Ensuring market site is clean once the market has ended each week

  • conducting periodic customer counts each market

  • posting on social media

 

Qualifications

  • excellent communication skills, both in person and on social media

  • spanish speaker preferred

  • ”people person”, with skills in diplomacy

  • basic finance skills helpful

  • ability to work in fast-paced environment, in all weather conditions

  • excellent organizational skills

  • leadership/entrepreneurial drive

  • ability to interact comfortably with public and with groups of all socioeconomic backgrounds

  • passion for local agriculture, good food and small businesses

  • priority given to candidates with strong ties to the Newburgh community

 

Details

The position is part-time, averaging 8 hr/week, $15/hr, July - October, starting as soon as possible to train with the outgoing market manager.
